The Bantul Regency Administration closed the Imogiri livestock market yesterday [14 Jan 2025] to prevent the spread of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD). The elected Bantul Regent Abdul Halim Muslih announced that the Imogiri livestock market in Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta, would be closed for 14 days. He said this step was in accordance with the Ministry of Agriculture's direction.

"The escalation is widespread not only in Bantul but throughout Indonesia. Following the direction of the Ministry of Agriculture, the livestock market will be closed from 14 to 27 Jan 2025," he said on Tuesday [14 Jan 2025].

"The sick cattle will be treated, while the healthy will be vaccinated. At the same time, cattle pens in the Bantul area are also being disinfected. The number of cattle that have died is 32, and those that are positive for FMD are 322," Abdul Halim said.

Meanwhile, Bantul Regency Food Security and Agriculture Service (DKPP) head Joko Waluyo mentioned that 2 cows were forcibly slaughtered due to positive FMD.

The Bekasi Regency Administration will intensify vaccination efforts to prevent the spread of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) among livestock, mirroring a similar strategy implemented in 2024.

"Vaccination remains our top priority in preventing the spread of FMD among livestock. Therefore, just like last year [2024], we will intensify our efforts this year [2025] as well," said Bekasi Regency Agriculture Agency's Animal Health and Veterinary Public Health Head Dwian Wahyudiharto on Tuesday [14 Jan 2025].

He explained that in 2024, a total of 37 459 livestock of various types received vaccinations from the Bekasi Regency Administration. This includes 14 605 cows, 19 176 sheep, 3674 goats, and 4 buffaloes.

The Agriculture Agency has also been providing vitamins and conducting socialization on the importance of maintaining clean barns and animal health. These are priority programs in 2025 to prevent the spread of FMD among livestock.

Currently, he admitted that they have conducted data collection and field surveys. The results showed that 148 livestock were found to be infected with FMD.

"Of that number, 108 have recovered, 2 have died, 14 have been conditionally slaughtered, and 24 are still under our supervision," he said.
