The veterinary services in Jijel sound the alarm and issue strict instructions to livestock farmers

The Veterinary Inspectorate in Jijel confirmed the identification of a second FMD outbreak at a slaughterhouse in the Emir Abdelkader municipality. Investigations showed that the infected cattle discovered at this slaughterhouse had been purchased from Tiaret Province. This marks the second outbreak detected in the province within a matter of hours, following the first outbreak reported in Ouadjana municipality, where infected cattle were found, also purchased from outside the province, specifically from the El Eulma region in Sétif Province.
In response to these developments, the veterinary services in Jijel raised the alarm and initiated a widespread vaccination campaign around the 2 detected outbreak sites to curb the disease's spread to other areas within the province. The authorities issued strict instructions to livestock farmers across the province, urging them to exercise caution. They emphasized the importance of preventing newly acquired cattle, especially those bought from outside the province, from mixing with their existing herds. Farmers were also advised to vaccinate their cattle promptly and maintain proper hygiene standards within their barns.
