Foot-and-mouth disease causes the closure of the livestock market in Qasr Ben Ghashir

The agricultural police announced the closure of the popular Sunday market for the sale of livestock in the municipality of Qasr Ben Ghashir due to the spread of foot-and-mouth disease.
The agricultural police closed the market on Sunday [25 Feb 2024] morning due to the spread of foot-and-mouth disease among sheep and lumpy skin disease among cows in the vicinity of the municipality of Qasr Ben Ghashir, the agency said.

[On Sun 25 Feb, the Libyan national center for animal health surveillance published an informational note on its Facebook page attesting to the registration of 30 FMDV [foot-and-mouth disease virus] outbreaks due to serotype O, between 16 Jan and 22 Feb [2024].
