Sidi Bel Abbès: 98% of cattle vaccinated against foot-and-mouth disease
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The vaccination rate of livestock against foot-and-mouth disease across the municipalities of the wilaya of Sidi Bel Abbès reached 98 percent, a process for which 77 veterinarians were recruited, including 22 public veterinarians and 55 private veterinarians, within the framework of the national campaign against this animal disease as a preventive measure after confirming the emergence of cases and outbreaks in some states of the country to avoid the spread of the disease.
The campaign, which was launched recently, was carried out in good conditions, and as a result, 30 965 cattle and 200 goats were vaccinated, as the process touched 2686 breeders. A sufficient stock of doses of vaccine against this disease is available at the Veterinary Inspectorate, which has 39 000 vaccination doses.
Five foot-and-mouth disease outbreaks were recorded in the areas of Tilmouni, Amarnas, Oued Sebaa, and Lamtar, where the disease affected 12 heads, including 4 sheep and 8 cattle.
Weekly livestock markets have been reopened after being closed as a precautionary measure to avoid the spread of the disease through the movement and contact of livestock. All necessary preventive measures are taken, especially at the borders, to prevent the entry of cattle infected with the disease into the state.
